Okay, here's the first part of New Lives, the sequel to Consequences. This is everything posted so far at Fanfiction.net. FF.net gets updated weekly in small chunks; it'll probabbly be another month before I have enough small chunks to make a big chunk to post here on LJ.

Okay. I believe I have figured out some of the logistics of posting stories to LJ, so I'm going to post Consequences here. Because apparently you can only put around 47k characters in a post before LJ starts going weird (thanks for the tip,
kuna_yashmaa!), I've cut it into five sections.
For those of you wondering how New Lives is going, it is incredibly frustrating at the moment because it is going precisely nowhere. On the bright side, my
ucp_ficathon fic is almost done and I've started a Fic For All (Giles/Sam Carter). It may be just a vignette, it may go somewhere, we'll see.

Well, chapter three is up at fanfiction.net. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's a sequel to my story Consequences, a Stargate: SG-1 fic that goes AU in the middle of the episode "Broca Divide." In that story, Jack was infected earlier and so didn't stop Carter in the locker room. I have read so many saccharine stories that start out that way. This was my reaction to that:( my rant )
By the end of Consequences, Jack and Sam are together and the big issues have been mostly worked out. New Lives begins about a week later, but if you're expecting happily ever after ... well, we'll get there eventually.
Any way, I'm finding NL a lot harder to write than Consequences was. I've fallen back on my old writing style of just trying to get 500 words a day done. Just writing for the word count. It's more mechanical than I'd prefer, but on the other hand, right now it's the only way I'm getting anything done. NL feels very 'talky' to me, and I'm not sure if I'm hitting the right amount of exposition or not, or if some scenes feel repetitive. What I need is a beta who won't spare my feelings. If anyone wants to volunteer for the job, please let me know.
Oh, and I get a large chunk of story written before I even start posting, so anyone who volunteers will get to read stuff weeks before it gets posted anywhere. (I do this so even if I hit a dry spell and don't get anything written on a story for a while, I can keep up a regular posting schedule while I get my writing schedule back on track.)
( Minor Spoilers )

Aaaah! No, no, no, this is bad. The fic I'm currently working on, New Lives, is going slower than the fic I just finished, Consequences. (Which is up on ff.net, and will be here soon.) Anyway, New Lives is a sequal to it and I'm finding it a lot harder to write. So it's going slower. And I sat down to write today and found that the last section I wrote either was never saved or got overwritten somehow. I don't want to have to retype it! I don't even remember exactly what I wrote! I always write a few chapters ahead of what I post, so I have some stuff I can put up this week despite the lost words ... but I hate having a small gap between what I've got posted and what I have on my hard drive. It's a lot less pressure to just get something written if I know I've got some slack to play with if I need it. And the slow writing I've managed with this story so far is not conducive to building more lead time, unless I make the chapters shorter. Which I don't want to do.
