I have two ficathon stories that are due the end of the month, neither one of which am I anywhere close to finishing. tealc_ficathon is barely started, and my multific fic is, well, I should have just committed to the 7-10k new words rather than actually finishing it.
Am I writing either of those? No. I'm writing a BSG fic about Kara Thrace's dad.
Am I writing either of those? No. I'm writing a BSG fic about Kara Thrace's dad.
I just watched the BSG finale with Mom. Last few minutes, with Head!Six and Head!Baltar, in present-day Earth, talking about how all this has happened before and all this will happen again and complex systems and different results and God not liking to be called God.
And had a plot bunny (which I WILL NEVER WRITE, and am therefore donating free to a good home):
End of Watchmen, the apocalypse has been (we hope) averted by staging a mini-apocolypse. Dr. Manhattan decides to leave the planet and go off by himself to explore the universe, thinking maybe he'll create life somewhere along the way. What if he's the divine force/whatever you want to call it working in the BSG universe? Creation of life, watching everything fall to pieces, trying to help them grow beyond that so that maybe this time there won't be an apocalypse.
It works. But I am not writing it. Watchmen breaks my brain, and I'm not too fond of the way BSG ended. No matter how well it fits together, I'm not writing it.

Go check out all the lovely stories in
remixredux08. Here is part one of my list of recs:
Desert Glass (Ordinary Time remix). In his years on Tatooine, Obi-Wan finds he has a lot to learn. Lyric, painful, but full of life.
Lucid Diamond Sky (the Misogynistic Lash cut-up). Two's company, three's a crowd. Doctor Who, the Master/Lucy.
More of the Stars and Sea (The Three Meals Remix). Stargate: Atlantis, Teyla and Radek. They were merely colleagues who dined together from time to time. Strangers on the cusp of becoming friends.
Copper and Moonlight (The Mimi & Rodolfo Remix). B:tVS, a beautiful, heartbreaking look at Giles after Becoming.
She Bangs the Drums (Losing, Losing, Lost Remix). Doctor Who, the year that wasn't. Lucy's tragedy is that she loves him.
Reverb (Three Toasters, One Dead Body, and Ellen Tigh Walk into a Bar Remix). BSG, written for me! Outside in the distance a wildcat did growl. Two riders were approaching, the wind began to howl. Spoilers for Crossroads II.
I Have Become (Death) (The J.Robert Oppenheimer Remix). Babylon 5, Lyta Alexander and the Telepath War. You never forget your first. Or your last. Lyta Alexander would know.
Hush-A-Bye Baby (The Blackberry Remix). BtVS, Dawn and Drusilla. At night, the dark-haired girl without a name glowed at her through eddies of green light.
Enemies & Friends (The “Ogron, Ogron, Ogron” Remix). Sarah Jane Adventures/Doctor Who. In which there are Ogrons and Sarah Jane Smith struggles to figure out what the hell is going on. Starring Sarah Jane Smith, Vislor Turlough, Luke Smith, Maria Jackson, Clyde Langer, K9 Mark IV, Mister Smith, Ian Chesterton, Barbara Wright, Ianto Jones, Jack Harkness, Ace, Chrissie Jackson and Lots And Lots Of Ogrons.
The Art of Memory (Bold and Lonely Remix). Doctor Who. The Doctor's a hard man to forget.
Five Pay Phones Buffy Almost Called Giles From. BtVS, the summer she ran away.
Some Mother's Son (The A-Z Remix). Stargate: Atlantis, pre-series. Mothers are fonder than fathers of their children because they are more certain they are their own.
The Great Bikini Incident (The Key to Time Remix). Doctor Who/BtVS. Dawn’s suspicious of the three electricity inspectors outside her sister’s Rome apartment.

I have a
choc_fic due today, and I'm scrambling around for a title for it (I know, but I'm really bad with titles). Anyway, in the scramble I came across my list of poems I've saved from various places. And now, I want to write a story for Sharon (Boomer) Valerii from BSG to this poem:
One Art
The art of losing isn’t hard to master;
so many things seem filled with the intent
to be lost that their loss is no disaster.
Lose something every day. Accept the fluster
of lost door keys, the hour badly spent.
The art of losing isn’t hard to master.
Then practice losing farther, losing faster:
places, and names, and where it was you meant
to travel. None of these will bring disaster.
I lost my mother’s watch. And look! my last, or
next-to-last, of three loved houses went.
The art of losing isn’t hard to master.
I lost two cities, lovely ones. And, vaster,
some realms I owned, two rivers, a continent.
I miss them, but it wasn’t a disaster.
—Even losing you (the joking voice, a gesture
I love) I shan’t have lied. It’s evident
the art of losing’s not too hard to master,
though it may look like (write it!) like disaster.
-Elizabeth Bishop (1976)
It doesn't fit this story, but it fits her so well I have no idea why I didn't list it as a prompt back when they were calling for prompts.

Because I've had a BSG story (spoilers through Crossroads II) on the back-burner for a couple of months, and it looks like it might get finished this weekend, and I'd hate to post it without a beta. But it's got to be someone familiar with BSG, who's seen the season-ending two part ep Crossroads, because I need to know if I've achieved the proper effect--are the subtle references to what happens then too subtle, too obvious, or just right?
Vindication at last! (Sci-Fi/NBC is stupid)
Ah. It is nice to be proven right, even if you'd rather be wrong. Cancelling SG-1 and splitting up Sci-Fi Friday was a stupid move. And the ratings prove it.
Now, if only NBC/Sci-Fi would realize the error of their ways and fix it before it's too late. I'm not holding my breath. Most networks make stupid decisions regarding programming on a regular basis, and the tendency is even stronger when it's a sci-fi show.
